Guinea
Pigs are popular pets that can live up to 6 years, they need
daily contact with their owner and some require regular
grooming. A good healthy diet is also required, Hay for foraging
on, vegetables and fruit and a good quality dry food that must
have added vitamin C, guinea pigs cannot produce their own
vitamin C. Rabbit food is no good as it doesn’t have vitamin C.
We prefer to re-home Guinea Pigs in same sex
pairs however one common reason for re-homing Guinea’s is
fighting between male boars, usually once this has happened they
have to be re-homed on their own. We do not re-home guinea pigs
to go with Rabbits, contrary to popular belief they do not make
ideal cage mates as they have different requirements. A guinea
pig requires daily exercise so we prefer that they have access
to an out door run/enclosure where they have protection from the
weather and other animals, their cage/hutch should be large
enough for a pair of Guinea’s to live comfortably in where they
have space to get away from each other if they feel the need.
Indoor guinea pigs will need regular toe nail clipping, we can
show you how to do this or your own vet could show you how.
We suggest a donation of £10 when adopting a
Guinea Pig be made to the RSPCA.
There
are lots of websites that give information about small furry
animals, my main knowledge is about Guinea’s however I might be
able to help with other animals.
